Within the RMAS grounds lies our historic cemetery, with graves dating back to 1817. It's the final resting place of Officer Cadets, Academy staff, their families and Victoria Cross recipient, Sergeant Major William Lendrim.
Many graves now require specialist cleaning and repair to preserve their dignity and honour those who shaped Sandhurst’s history.
We are proud to partner with the Victoria Cross Trust, whose volunteers will be onsite in April to clean, restore, and repair a number of these historic graves.
The Project
The Victoria Cross Trust is a remarkable charity dedicated to preserving the graves and honouring the memory of Victoria Cross recipients, many of whom gave their lives in conflicts around the world.
Whilst attending our cemetery to clean and make any necessary repairs to William James Lendrim VC grave, the team have generously offered to extend their support to other graves on site. Their expertise and commitment ensures that these important memorials receive the care and respect they deserve.
Over the coming weeks, we will share more about this important project, including the individual stories behind the graves being restored. We look forward to highlighting the life and legacy of William James Lendrim VC and others whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire.
