Sandhurst Historical Tours
Experience over 200 years of history at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

Although the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is an enclosed establishment, hundreds of visitors are welcomed each year on historical tours organised by the Sandhurst Trust.

Immerse yourself in the history of this unique establishment, recognisable around the world, where officer training has continued unbroken since 1812. Stand in rooms where many statesmen and rulers have trained including our future King, HRH Prince of Wales, Winston Churchill and the current King Abdullah II of Jordan. Learn about key military figures whose names adorn the prestige rooms in Old College including the Duke of Wellington and the 1st Duke of Marlborough.

Tours take place throughout the year and are led by experienced tour guides, all retired officers, who share their extensive knowledge on the history of the Academy and its buildings. Typical tours last 2.5 hours, giving visitors plenty of time to take in the history of the buildings and rooms.

Tours include visits to the main prestige room of Old College including the Indian Army Memorial Room, Wellington Room, History Room, and the Old College Grand Entrance. Also included are the two chapels on site -The Royal Memorial Chapel and Roman Catholic Chapel. Tours can now include a visit to the new Queen Elizabeth II statue that was installed in 2022 to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

All adult guests are required to bring photographic ID with them on the day. This can be a passport/driving license/bus pass - if it has a name and photograph this will suffice. Guests may be asked at any point during their visit to produce their ID, failure to do so could result in guests being removed from the Academy.

The Academy is a working military establishment and as such, any military activity will take priority over tours.
Whilst we make every effort to deconflict with the Academy diary, there may be rare occasions where the tour programme may be adapted, postponed or cancelled due to Academy activities taking place.

Please be advised that as a working Military Academy these tours need to be deconflicted with core military activity and MUST be booked in advance with at least 4 weeks notice.

In order to deconflict as much as possible with Academy and military activity, all visits must be approved by Academy Headquarters and therefore we ask you to suggest three dates that would work for you group in order of preference. These dates will then be submitted to the Academy for approval, which can take 2-4 weeks (dependent on Academy activity).
