The ABF Home Front Walk: A Special Stop at Sandhurst

On Saturday 14th March, the Sandhurst Trust was proud to play a part in the ABF's epic walking challenge, The Frontline Walk.
The Home Front is the first in the series of challenges, and the only one on home soil.

The 28 participants of The Home Front walk arrived at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and began their day with an exclusive tour starting in Old College, led by one of the Trust's volunteer tour guides, bringing the history and traditions of British Army officer training to life for those taking on the walking challenge.

The group explored the Grand Entrance of Old College before stepping into the Indian Army Memorial Room, which pays homage to the soldiers of the British Indian Army through over 100 artefacts and portraits, curated by the National Army Museum, and striking stained glass windows depicting campaign scenes. From there, participants warmed up with a short walk to the recently installed Queen Elizabeth II statue, unveiled in 2022 to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, before taking in the impressive facade of New College, and then setting off on the walk itself.

From there, the 12-mile route continued to Brookwood Cemetery via Deepcut and Pirbright. The largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery in the United Kingdom, Brookwood is home to over 5,000 Commonwealth war graves spanning both World Wars, alongside the graves of service personnel from across the globe. A chance to pause, reflect, and remember.

By all accounts it was a truly special day! Physical challenge and quiet remembrance in equal measure, under beautiful spring sunshine. The enjoyment and team spirit is evident in the photographs from the day, available to view on the Home Front 2026 Flickr account here.

Congratulations to the ABF and everyone who took part in making the first in the series of Frontline Walks such a memorable occasion.
