Sovereign's Parades |
The Sovereign's Parade on 2nd August 1951 was taken by General Sir John Crocker. G.C.B.. K.B.E .D.S.O . M.C. Adjutant-General to the Forces. One of the most popular of WWII generals his troops gave him the nickname, "Honest John".
In his speech, which is shown in full in the image gallery, below General Crocker stated:
"This is an important moment for you and I would just like to say this to you: This is the end of a phase. It is, in fact, no more than the end of the beginning.
When you leave this place and put up the badges of commissioned rank it will be up to you to continue by your own efforts what you have begun here; to confirm and expand your knowledge and to develop your powers of leadership. And your success as a leader will depend not so much upon what you know and say, although knowledge and ability to teach are important attributes of leadership, but on what you do; by your conduct and behaviour at all times."
INTRODUCTION OF No. 1 DRESS (extract from the Wish Stream)
During the past year No. 1 Dress has been worn by Officer Cadets for dinner. Now, for the first time since the outbreak of the First World War, "blues" have been worn on ceremonial parade at Sandhurst. The occasion was the Sovereign's Parade on 2nd August, when the cadets paraded in "No. 1," with forage caps, buff equipment, and white gloves. The effect was most attractive and impressive.
