Intake 8

Parade cancelled due to the death of King George VI.

The Sovereign's Parade for Intake 8 was scheduled to take place on 7th February 1952. However, two days earlier the announcement was made that HRH King Geoge V1 had died, a decision was therefore made to cancel the Parade.

The only official photo taken to mark the occasion was the photo of Sovereign's Company - Gaza.

The following was posted In the Wish Stream shortly after the event

HIS MAJESTY KING GEORGE VI died on the Sixth of February. Our grief and feeling of deep loss are still with us. His sense of duty, his courage and determination of purpose, his dedication of self to his peoples gained our intense admiration, increasing as the years of his reign succeeded one another. In every way he was a King.

We had been honoured by his presence at Sandhurst. He showed a keen personal interest in the new Military Academy with its prefix "Royal"; more than this, he conferred a distinction on the Champion Company by naming it "The Sovereign's Company," and by presenting a banner; and he had further associated himself with us by calling the Passing-out Parade "The Sovereign's Parade."

We who find pride in our motto, "Serve to Lead," can allow our thoughts to dwell with utter satisfaction and benefit on the story of his service to his subjects. His example will remain for us the great incentive to our own calling and in our search after an ideal of leadership; selfless, sacrificing and constant.
