2018 marked 70 years since the Officer Cadets of Intake 1,1a and 2 were the first group to commission from the newly formed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The Sandhurst Trust were keen to mark this special occasion and so our annual "70th Reunion Event" was formed.

Usually, reunions are organised by the intake themselves but, as a tribute to our oldest alumni, the Trust organised the event internally.

December 2018

As members of the first courses to train at the newly formed Royal Military Academy Sandhrust, these Officer Cadets commissioined in 1948. All now aged 90, these incredible gentlemen travelled to the Academy from around the country to celebrate their special anniversary with us.

For many this was the first time they have been back to RMAS in 70 years. Also attending were members of their families and staff from Academy Headquarters.

The Sandhurst Trust had a day of events and displays arranged including photographs and videos from their time as Officer Cadets. Also, on display were personal records from their time here at the Academy. The day continued with the Officer Cadets and their families being treated to a lunch in the Indian Army Memorial Room with a special menu themed around food they would have eaten in 1948 -the Spam Fritters went down extremely well.

This time the event was held in the Lord Room, with many alumni reminiscencing of the, then, newly arrived Academy Sergeant Major Jack Lord. Academy staff attending this time included Commandant Major General Paul Nanson who enjoyed hearing stories from the visitors of their time here during the late1940s.

As before our special guests viewed the photos retrieved from the archives  and time was spent reading their personal reports.

September 2022

Unfortunately, Covid meant our planned 2020 and 2021 events were prosponed. In their place, the Sandhurst Trust implemented a one off pen pal scheme between current Officer Officers and our more isolated alumni.   To ensure these alumni didn't miss out, the Sandhurst Trust ran a combined event in 2022 for Intakes 5-9.
