Service of Remembrance takes place in the Royal Memorial Chapel

On Sunday 10th November, The Royal Memorial Chapel at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst hosted its Service of Remembrance.

Officer cadets, staff and their families gathered in a collective moment of reflection and gratitude to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Joining them were the Sandhurst Trust team, trustees, and our veteran tour guides, united in remembrance and respect. The service was a powerful commemoration within the hallowed surroundings of the Royal Memorial Chapel, a place that holds deep spiritual significance for the Officer Corps of the British Army.

Before the service began, the Commandant and Academy Sargeant Major laid wreaths at the memorial outside the main chapel doors before laying further wreaths at the altar.

During the service, a page was turned in the 1939-1946 Officers Roll of Honour before the Act of Remembrance. The Last Post then echoed through the chapel as the congregation stood in silent tribute, honouring the fallen.

The chapel resonated with the heartfelt voices of the congregation as they sang poignant hymns like "I Vow to Thee, My Country" and "Abide with Me", creating an atmosphere of deep reflection and reverence.

The service not only paid tribute to those lost in historic conflicts, such as the World Wars, but also honoured the men and women who have fallen in more recent service across the world.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.
