Recently, DHL held an exclusive event at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst organised by the Sandhurst Trust. The day brought together 120 attendees including DHL hiring managers, fellow covenant signatories, military leaders and industry bodies to promote the unique skill sets that military veterans offer. The main aim of the event was to increase the number of veterans DHL take through to interview.
Expert speakers from Career Transition Partnership, the Forces Employment Charity and the MoD's Defence Relationship Management arm provided insights into veterans' career journeys and the resettlement process. WIthin the prestige rooms of the historic Old College, guests also heard from Shadow Minister for Veterans Andrew Bowie MP and enjoyed a keynote by former Special Forces soldier and TV personality, Ollie Ollerton.
After a traditional Army curry lunch, attendees were treated to a short walking tour of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Taken by veteran tour guides, they walked down the corridors and hallowed rooms of the 200-year-Old College before a visit to the Royal Memorial Chapel.
Strengthening Commitment to Veterans
The event enabled attendees to discuss with like-minded organisations how to help veterans overcome the challenges they face in securing civilian roles. Over the coming months, DHL will be working closely with its managers to help them take the knowledge they gained at this event forward and increase the number of veterans being hired.
“It was inspiring to learn about the fantastic work being done to support this community, and I’m proud to represent DHL in our commitment to employing veterans and ex-military personnel.
Our managers gained valuable insights into the transferable skills that these individuals bring to the workforce, emphasising how we can further enhance our support and create more opportunities. Together, we can continue to honour their service and make a meaningful impact!”
Helen Sexon, HR VP
