In a welcome break from the physical demands of the Academy training programme, Officer Cadets from CC 241 have this week enjoyed a historical tour. The 45 minute tour, lead by Sandhurst Trust Director Vaughan Kent-Payne, took the new cadets through the history of Sandhurst and covered landmarks such as the cannon captured at the battle of Seringapatam in 1799 and the statue of Queen Elizabeth II which was unveiled in 2022.

The tour also highlighted graffiti carved into the brick walls by cadets in the 1850s, and the Luneberg Stone which marked the spot where German forces in Northern Europe surrendered in May 1945.

After the tour, Officer Cadets from Blenheim and Inkerman company collected their welcome gift from the Sandhurst Trust. This term Junior Cadets  were gifted a CR crested mug for their brew rooms and some postcards to stay in touch with family and friends.

As the official charity and alumni community of the Royal Military Academy, the Sandhurst Trust supports Cadets from the beginning of their journey to become an Army Officer.

Since 2019, all new Officer Cadets receive a welcome gift from the Sandhurst Trust during the first few weeks of term. The aim being to introduce the Sandhurst Trust to the Officer Cadets and make them feel part of their new alumni.

These gifts are always appreciated by the Cadets, especially during the Covid lockdowns of 2020/2021. It is amazing how such a small act can help to build important alumni relationships.

As the only organisation linking all serving and former Army Officers, the Sandhurst Trust alumni community is built on a common bond of loyalty, trust and belonging.

These gifts are just one way the Sandhurst Trust works towards this.
